Not surprising given its undeniable natural beautiful surroundings of the Simonsberg foothills in Franschhoek Vrede en Lust Wine Estate is not only one of South Africa’s oldest working wine farms of the Cape it has a wide selection of award-winning wines for tasting while enjoying the pristine views, not to mention it’s the home of Lust Bistro & Bakery an excellent breakfast and lunch spot which is popular with many locals and international visitors.
After doing some sightseeing around we popped in at Lust Bistro & Bakery for some lunch. We were welcomed by friendly staff that escorted us to the outside sitting area since it was such a beautiful sunny day. Lust Bistro & Bakery gives off a relaxed ambiance which is topped by a warm and friendly staff who are ready to be at your service.
The menu caters for everyone’s taste and preference with freshly baked artisan bread, pizza’s, fresh salads and their Lusty Ice Cream Sundae dessert which I had been looking forward to eating for the longest time. Lust Bistro & Bakery is a kid’s friendly place with a kid’s menu as well as a children’s play area perfect to bring along the whole family for a great meal during the weekend or school holidays.
We met with the Head Chef Johan van Schalkwyk who is passionate about food and his greatest reward is seeing customers happy and coming back for more of his food.He prides himself in making use of quality ingredients that are in season creating masterpieces that cater to different palates. Chef Johan took us through the summer menu and showed us the daily specials blackboard which is very popular with many customers. For starters, he recommended one of the blackboard daily specials the seared tuna salad which is so refreshing and bursting with flavors.
For mains, I ordered the delicious Thai fish cakes which are made of crumbed, line fish cakes served on rocket and tomato salsa with chili ginger syrup as I wanted something light to leave room for the enticing Lusty Ice Cream Sundae dessert. My partner ordered the succulent Charlar Beef Sirloin steak served with seasonal vegetables and rustic fries. Lust Bistro has a wide selection of Vrede EN Lust Wines and Chef Johan has taken the time to pair some of their wines with the array of meals available.
For dessert, I ordered the Lusty Ice Cream Sundae which topped up an amazing lunch while my partner had the delectably presented Belgian Chocolate Brownie.
So next time you are in Franschhoek why not pop into Lust Bistro & Bakery and treat yourself to some amazing food. We can’t wait to go back with the kids to Lust Bistro on a Sunday for their popular Sunday buffet which is available on the first Sunday of every month from 12 pm to 3 pm.
