Free Things to do in Cape Town 2022

Looking for free things to do in Cape Town this summer? South Africa is a magical place to visit once in a lifetime, but let’s be honest: it’s not cheap. Lucky for us, there are a lot of free things to do in Cape Town. Here are several of our favorite free things to do in Cape Town, including sunset hikes, street art, and wine tasting.

Tourist Attractions in Cape Town

1. Bo-Kaap

This township on the slopes of Signal Hill used to be called the Malay Quarter, but now it is full of great culture and bright colors. Walk through the vibrantly colored playground of eye-catching homes and learn about the area’s culture, which used to be hard but is now full of celebration. Consult the Bo-Kaap Museum on Wale St. to gain more knowledge while you’re there!  The Bo Kaap free walking tour is a great way to explore Bo Kaap.

2. Street art

Head to the Observatory area and the suburb of Woodstock to see amazing street art full of color, detail, and strong meaning. In Woodstock, you can find free tours on the internet or on the streets.

3. Greenmarket Square

This busy square is one of the oldest in South Africa. It is only a short walk from the V&A Waterfront. This busy plaza used to be where enslaved people were sold, but now locals sell handmade goods there.

This is a great place to buy unique souvenirs and a great place to walk around and learn about Cape Town’s culture! In addition to enjoying the colors and beauty of the crafts, Greenmarket is always a stage for street musicians and dancers, so you will always be entertained.

4. Take a diamond tour

Okay, so it’s clear that diamonds don’t cost anything. They are anything but free; they cost a lot of money. Do you know what’s free, though? Could you take a look at them? Enjoy a free tour of the Shimansky Diamond factory, which is full of interesting things to see. Shimansky can be found at the V&A Waterfront’s Clock Tower.

5. At sunset, stroll the Sea Point Promenade.

If you want to spend some money, you should consider yourself a nice sunset dinner at one of the restaurants along the promenade right by the water. But whether you eat at a table or take a walk, we promise it will be a memorable experience. The Sea Point Promenade is more than a walking path. It has art installations, cute shops, a putt-putt course, and so, of course, jaw-dropping views.

6. The V&A Waterfront

Even though the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront is a place to shop and eat, it’s also great to hang out. Listen to street musicians playing drums, watch traditional dances, and look over the water to see the mountains. At the V&A Waterfront, you can ride the big Ferris wheel called the Cape Wheel for less than $10. Talk about thoughts.

7. Taste the local wine

The Cape Winelands has become a well-known destination for wine experts and lovers. You don’t have to go on an expensive winery tour to try some good grapey stuff. Several places in and around Cape Town, like Wine Concepts on Kloof Street, offer free wine tastings daily.

8. Hike up to Lion’s Head

Even if you dislike hiking, you should check out Lion’s Head. This hike starts easy and gets harder as you go. Even if you only make it through the easy part, the views are still the best in the city.

Go on a Full Moon Hike if you’re really brave! Locals and tourists hike up Lion’s Head with torches and flashlights during the week of the full moon. South Africa has many beautiful night skies, so this is a once-in-a-lifetime event.

9. Get to the Beach!

Undoubtedly, the Western Cape has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Your eyes won’t know where to look when you have tall mountains behind you and bright blue water in front of you. Camps Bay and Clifton 1st or 4th are our favorite beaches because they are easy to get to.

10. Stargaze

South Africa is in the southern part of the world, which makes it a famous place to look at the stars. At night, you can get away from the lights of Cape Town’s city center and go to a beach, a mountain, or a wildlife park. Notice how the stars move across the sky and see constellations as you’ve never seen them before.

Conclusion

Cape Town is probably one of the world’s most exciting and interesting cities. It’s beautiful natural sights are only matched by its multicultural, creative atmosphere, making it a truly unique metropolis. Even though it has problems, The Mother City is a great place to visit because of its beautiful outdoors and indoors and its efforts to move on from its troubled past.

You might also find that the more amazing things you do in Cape Town, the more awesome things you’ll find to do. So, start making plans for your trip and maybe two or three after that. This city is likely to make you fall in love with it. We hope this list of free stuff to do in Cape Town was fun for you.
