Places to Visit in eSwatini

Places to visit in eSwatini have a big cultural impact. eSwatini is between the northeast of South Africa and the south of Mozambique. This country is a great place to visit. Eswatini is one of the smallest countries in Africa, but it is home to more than 1,357,161 people.

The largest cities are Manzini, Big Bend, Simunye, and Piggs Peak. The capital city is Mbabane. Even though Eswatini is not a very big place, there are many things to do and places to stay. This is a great reason to go to the country. The country’s money comes from tourism and protecting the wildlife there.

Even though eSwatini is small, it is a popular place for tourists. Here are the best places to visit in eSwatini.

Top things to do in eSwatini

1. Hlane National Royal Park

The Hlane Royal National Park is the most exciting place in the world and the most romantic place in Swaziland. The park has many animals, like rhinos, elephants, lions, and leopards. Several national awards have been given to the park for how well it is run. Hlane National Park also has several day hikes, safaris, and other activities that let people get a good look at Swaziland’s wildlife and nature.

2. Sibebe Rock

Mountains, valleys, and rivers cover a huge area in Eswatini. Its history goes back to the time of the dinosaurs. Sibebe Rock is one of the oldest and most interesting places. This huge granite dome is the second largest in the world, just like Uluru in Australia. The Rock is a 4km hike in Eswatini that is worth the trip. Sibebe Rock activities include hiking and exploring caves.

3. Shewula Nature Reserve

Shewula Nature Reserve is a great place to learn about the rich history of the Swazi people. It’s one of Swaziland’s most romantic spots. The mountain views from the village walks are the best in Africa. This one-of-a-kind experience lets you get to know the rich culture and people of the area.

A big part of the event is dancing and singing; trying to meet a traditional healer is one of the best parts. At the Shewula Mountain Camp, you can also spend the night in a traditional hut, which is a unique experience. It has showers and bathrooms built in. You will be able to feel like you belong in the village and eat food from that area.

4. Baobab Batik Workshop

Baobab Batik Workshop is another of the best places to visit in eSwatini. You will find the finest batik made from pillows, clothes, and table linens. The Swazi handicraft industry makes and sells beautiful items made from a grass called lutidzib.

5. Umhlanga Reed Dance

When it comes to culture, eSwatini is the Bailey dance. This is among the most important things in the country every year in August. The Umhlanga Reed Dance takes place over eight days and is a way for girls in Swaziland to honor the Swazi Queen Mother. On the seventh day, the girls participate in a show and honor the Queen Mother and the Swazi king. This is a separate event in the Kingdom that you should attend.

6. King Sobhuza II Memorial Park

The King Sobhuza II Memorial has to be one of Swaziland’s most romantic spots. The memorial park has a lot of information about the Kingdom of eSwatini and its longest-ruling king, who was in power from 1899 to 1982.

7. Malolotja Nature Reserve

Top things to do in eSwatini

The Malolotja Nature Reserve is known as one of the best places to go hiking in Southern Africa. To get ready, clean your walking boots and work out your thighs. The rugged peaks of Ngwenya Mountain are found in this area, which has everything from grassy highveld to montane forests.

It’s known for its endless hiking trails that go deep into the wilderness and let you see wildebeest, bucks, cheetahs, and bush pigs grazing along the way. Try to come in the spring or fall. It rains here in the summer, and the ridges can get frosty in the winter.

8. Nhlangano

The border crossings with South Africa at Mahamba are close to Nhlangano, the fourth largest in Swaziland. There are a lot of pretty jacaranda trees here, and it’s a nice place to hang out. It’s also easy to get to the safari spots in the Lowveld, which are farther into the country.

But if you decide to stay longer, you can see where King George VI thanked King Sobhuza II for his country’s help in the war. You will also see where he explored the elevated hamlet of Hlathikhulu, which is set beautifully above the beautiful valleys of western Swaziland.

9. Piggs Peak

Accessible Piggs Peak was the center of the old gold rush in Swaziland. Set in the northern hills, it used to be where all kinds of miners and prospectors came to dig in the crankshaft around the town.

Unfortunately, the expected wealth never really came to be, and less than 70 years after opening, the gold face images of Piggs Peak were shut down. Today, the area is a great place to hike, and it also has interesting craft markets and nice places to stay. It’s a great location to stop on the way to Kruger National Park, which is directly across South Africa’s border.

10. Ngwenya Glass

The Ngwenya Glass Factory is one of our favourite places to visit in eSwatini. This eSwatini tourist attraction has beautiful handmade displays of glass products made from recycled glass.  You can view the glass blowing process in the factory. The glass shop offers numerous beautiful glass recycled pieces ranging from drinking glasses, cups, animals, and other ornaments. This is the ideal place to grab some memorabilia and very creative, unique, gifts for your friends, family and loved ones. If you’re in eSwatini and looking for something exciting to do, look no further than the Ngwenya Glass Factory.
