Tourist Attractions in Kenya
1. Lake Victoria
A tropical lake, Lake Victoria serves as the crown jewel of the Great Rift Valley and is the major tropical lake in the world. The lake’s water then flows into the Nile River, one of the longest and most important rivers in history. Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania all share the lake, an important part of each country.
2. Lake Nakuru
Lake Nakuru is a popular lake in the Great Rift Valley, and the Lake Nakuru National Park protects it. You can go to the area around Loldia House to see Lake Nakuru. The Loldia House is only a two-hour drive from Nairobi. This makes it easy to get to and a great place to start your African safari and explore the Great Rift Valley. Lake Nakuru and its national park are known for their beautiful scenery and large numbers of flamingos and rhinos.
After an early breakfast, you’ll drive to the Great Rift Valley and start your trip to Lake Nakuru. Even though it is one of the smallest national parks in Kenya, many people think it is one of the most beautiful. The great and lesser flamingos, the area stars, and many rhinos all come to the lake.
3. Mombasa & Mombasa Island
Mombasa Island is on the coast of Kenya. It is east of Nairobi and can be reached by train through the Tsavo National Park. The city of Mombasa and the international airport are both on the island. The city is the second largest in Kenya, after Nairobi, and has a warmer climate. You can get to Kenya’s beautiful beaches and coastal areas from Mombasa.
The world-famous Kenyan coast has palm trees and comfortable places to stay. This is a great and different place to relax after your safari in Kenya. You can enjoy beautiful scenery, historical sites, beautiful beaches, and coral reefs with many kinds of fish.
4. National Reserves in Samburu, Shaba, and Buffalo Springs
Just north of Mount Kenya, in a more desert region of Kenya, the three national reserves of Samburu, Shaba, and Buffalo Springs all share the same boundary and are often considered to be the same protected area. The area has wooded areas, many bushlands, and grasslands with animals like zebras, giraffes, bush elephants, oryx, buffalo, Masai lions, leopards, cheetahs, and hyenas live. Hippos and crocodiles then live in the rivers. There are about 400 different kinds of birds to see in the area, which makes it a great place for birdwatchers. Somali ostriches are frequently seen in the reserves.
5. National Park of Mombasa Marine
Territorial waters of the Indian Ocean and coastal mangroves are included in the Mombasa Marine National Park, a protected coastal water region. It has a variety of coral reefs with a lot of animal life. These reefs cover about 200 km2 (49,400 acres). The park is close to where most tourists go, and it’s a great place to go snorkeling or diving.
Along with Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, this region and other Kenyan reefs are among the best diving locations in the world. The warm water at the park’s surface, which stays between 25°C and 31°C, makes it so appealing, along with the coconut palms, blue water, and golden sand beaches. People like to snorkel, dive, windsurf, and water ski in this area, among other things.
6. Visit Nairobi
Nairobi, the capital and major city of Kenya, is where many tourists stay when they go on safari in the Masai Mara or another protected area. The Nairobi National Park, which we will talk about in more detail next, is one of the city’s main tourist spots and is even inside the city limits.
The British built Nairobi as a train station, which grew to become the country’s capital. This city is full of life, culture, great restaurants, and sights, such as the national museum, orphanages for different animals, the nearby national park, and some interesting buildings.
7. National Park of Nairobi
The Nairobi National Park is the city’s main tourist attraction. It is the only national park that is inside a city. Even giraffes can be seen far away from the edge of the city. The city’s buildings are on the other side of the park’s open grasslands. The park is home to many well-known animals, such as lions, giraffes, cheetahs, hyenas, buffalo, and a wide range of birds.
This was Kenya’s first national park, an important protected area with a long history. It is only 7 km south of the city. You can see the Ivory Burning Monument, where Kenyan President Daniel Arap Moi burned 12 tons of ivory in 1989 to show his support for conservation. During this time, people in East Africa were hunting big animals more than ever before.
Even though the park is only 117 square kilometers (28,963 acres), many animals live there, and many herbivores stop there on their way north or south. One of Kenya’s healthiest groups of rhino’s lives in the park.

8. Giraffe Center Nairobi
The Giraffe center Nairobi takes care of different Rothschild giraffes as part of a breeding program to help restock national parks and protect giraffe populations. This is another must-see place. The sanctuary has done very well and is now one of the most popular places for tourists in Nairobi.
The people who started the breeding sanctuary in 1979 have allowed the center to give many breeding pairs of giraffes to protected areas in Kenya. The parks also get calves born at the sanctuary along with the breeding pairs.
9. Wildlife Conservancy of Lewa
The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a good example of how community conservation can work in a protected area. The 62,000-acre (250 km2) area is in the northern part of Kenya. You can go on directed game drives to see lions, zebras, leopards, elephants, cheetahs, buffalo, and white and black rhinos.
The birdlife in the conservancy is also great for bird watchers, and you can see about 350 different species there.
In addition to game drives, our highly trained wildlife guides can lead you on interesting wildlife walks through the sanctuary, where you can see some amazing animals and plants. The Conservancy is most proud of its walking safaris.
10. National Park Hell’s Gate
Geysers and rocks in Hell’s Gate National Park are what makes it famous. There is also a lot of fascinating wildlife in the area, and it is well-known as a beautiful place to see birds of prey like raptors. You can walk down the gorge to see the hot springs, or if you stay at Loldia House, one of the resident naturalist guides can take you on a guided walk.
Hell’s Gate National Park is just south of Lake Naivasha. It was named for a narrow cliff opening that used to be a waterway that fed early people in the Rift Valley.
